Is Combustion a Solution ?
Combustion or burning is a complex sequence of exothermic chemical reactions between a fuel and an oxidant.
Oxygen = O2 ( We need it to live )
Carbon dioxide = CO2 ( Increases the Earth's temperature )
In the large majority of the real world uses of combustion, the oxygen (O2) oxidant is obtained from the ambient air and the resultant flue gas from the combustion will contain nitrogen:
CH4 + 2O2 + 7.52N2 → CO2 + 2H2O + 7.52N2 + heat
Hidrogen combustion ( Burns oxygen )
2H2 + O2 → 2H2O + heat
Gasoline combustion ( Burns oxygen an produces Carbon dioxide )
C8H18 + 12.5 O2 → 8 CO2 + 9 H2O
Ethanol combustion ( Burns oxygen an produces Carbon dioxide )
During combustion ethanol reacts with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide, water, and heat: (other air pollutants are also produced when ethanol is burned in the atmosphere rather than in pure oxygen)
C2H6O + 3O2 → 2CO2 + 3H2O
Butanol combustion ( Burns oxygen an produces Carbon dioxide )
2C4H9OH + 12O2 → 8CO2 + 10H2O + heat
